Mood Indigo by Carole MasseyCarole studied art at St Albans School of Art and then at Leicester College of Art & Design (now De Montford University) before following a successful career as a commercial artist running her own design business for 30 years.

She returned to her first love of painting, quickly gaining a reputation for her sensitive and timeless portraits. Her subjects have included members of the royal family, celebrities and leading public figures.

Amongst several TV appearances Carole took part in the BBC’s ‘The Big Event’ which featured a giant reproduction of John Constable’s "The Hay Wain".

In June 2014 she was honoured to have her painting of Sir Charles Bean, retiring Deputy Governor of the Bank of England, chosen as his official portait to hang in the Bank of England. Take a look at Carole's other portraits here.

Ella by Carole MasseyCarole is not only a professional painter she is a popular art tutor and demonstrator whose work is in private collections in Europe, the USA and the Far East. She is an accomplished all-rounder working in watercolour, water soluble pencils, acrylics, pastel, water based oils and mixed media. She was runner up in the Artist and Illustrator magazine in their "Artist of the Year" competition with her painting in acrylics "Reflections 3”, featured in the gallery. She has exhibited at the SWA exhibition at the Mall Galleries, across the South East of England and Brittany.

As a best-selling author she has written books on how to use water soluble pencils, painting flowers in acrylics and figures in watercolours. Her 96 page book "Drawing Masterclass - PORTRAITS" is a bible for aspiring portrait artists. She has also contributed to two large compendium books on drawing techniques and acrylics. The latest book "Drawing for the Absolute Beginner" will be published in Spring 2018 by Search Press, the UK’s leading art and craft publisher - see the publications page for more detail.

Carole is now a regular contributor to The Leisure Painter magazine, her first three articles being on Childrens' Portraits (see right). More recently she has written three articles articles on "Painting Water and Reflections".

An online art tuition website, features Carole’s ‘Foundation Portrait Course’, ‘Portraits in Acrylics’ with step by step demonstrations covering every aspect of portraiture in pencil, charcoal, pen & ink and acrylics. Carole has also recorded; 'Florals in Acrylics' , 'Still Life in Acrylics' and 'Water Soluble Pencils'.

The Cumberland Pencil Company commissioned Carole to select a special set of 12 pencils for painting portraits, the Derwent “Skintones” set.
